Walpole - Nancy Gallivan is not one to do good deeds expecting
recognition. In fact, she gets uncomfortable talking about
herself and the things she has done for the community.
"I felt awkward," she said of being named the Chamber of
Commerce's Citizen of the Year. "Everything I've done I've
done as part of a group and that's where I feel awkward being
recognized."
Gallivan, a School Committee member, went so far as to say
that she would feel more comfortable with the distinction if
say, "20 of us were recognized." "I
wouldn't take credit for anything I've done individually," she
said.
The Chamber of Commerce has named a Citizen of the Year since
1977. The award recognizes people who have made civic,
charitable and spiritual contributions to the community.
